Kliff Kingsbury earned some respect in Week 9 when he was able to get a win without Kyler Murray and DeAndre Hopkins. In Week 10, Kingsbury and the Cardinals get a reeling Carolina Panthers team. After a hot start to the season, Sam Darnold hasn’t played well.
The NFL betting lines at BetMGM show the Arizona Cardinals as 10-point favorites in the Panthers at Cardinals matchup. Read on to find out how the two teams match up.
Arizona Cardinals -10 (-110)
The Panthers vs. Cardinals game looks like a lopsided matchup. With Sam Darnold struggling to connect with his receivers, Christian McCaffrey is the Panthers’ only weapon. However, even a running back as talented as McCaffrey needs the help of his offensive line. Unfortunately, the Panthers are dealing with some severe injuries on the offensive line.
Center Matt Paradis reportedly tore his ACL on Sunday, and left tackle Cameron Erving just landed on the injured reserve. As a result, the Panthers have to rely on McCaffrey to move the ball downfield, but they lack the offensive line to do so effectively.
If the Panthers try to drop back and pass, Sam Darnold will have to get the ball out quickly. After losing two of their top offensive lineman, the Panthers now have to deal with Chandler Jones and an Arizona pass rush that recorded five sacks against the 49ers.
(Halftime / Fulltime) Cardinals / Cardinals (-150)
The Carolina defense started the year strong, holding their first four opponents to 14 points or less. Since then, however, the Panthers’ defense has surrendered at least 21 points in five of six games.
Meanwhile, the Panthers’ offense has put up less than 20 points in each of the past three games. Carolina had some optimism last week when Christian McCaffrey returned from IR, but the defensive struggles and poor quarterback play have derailed their season.
The Cardinals just showed that they’re capable of putting up 30+ points without their two best players in DeAndre Hopkins and Kyler Murray. With both players having a chance to play this week, there’s little reason to trust the Panthers to hold the lead at halftime or the end of the game.
Under 44.5 Total Points
The rationale for this bet is pretty simple. Out of the nine games the Panthers have played in this season, the total has gone under 44.5 points seven times.
With the way Sam Darnold is playing right now, I don’t see the Panthers being capable of putting up enough points to help push the total over 44.5. Arizona could easily score 30 points in the first three quarters and drain the clock with James Connor for most of the fourth quarter.
Previewing the Panthers at Cardinals Game
The Panthers are in desperate need of a win to keep their playoff hopes alive. But, unfortunately, when it comes to the NFC playoffs, they’re on the outside looking in and have the 8-1 Arizona Cardinals on the road.
If the Panthers have any shot in this game, it will take a monster game from Christian McCaffrey. You can see more sports betting odds for the Panthers at Cardinals and other matchups by visiting the BetMGM odds page.
