The Buffalo Bills were a betting favorite to win the Super Bowl this offseason.
But after falling to 7-6 after Week 14, Buffalo was in danger of losing the AFC East and not making the playoffs. The football odds currently have the Bills at +800 to win the Super Bowl. Here are three reasons Buffalo can win the Lombardi Trophy this season.
Game Details
Before we cover Buffalo’s advantages, here are the details you need to know about their first-round playoff matchup.
- When: Saturday, Jan. 15th
- Time: 8:15 P.M. EST
- Venue: Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, NY
- Participants: Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots
The Buffalo Bills Are Hot
The Bills have won their last four games this season. Buffalo has outscored its opponents 120 to 60 in those four games, including a 33-21 win against the team they will face this weekend: the Patriots. In their past three games, they’ve only allowed 104.3 passing yards per game, 97.7 rushing yards per game, and 202 total yards per game.
They’ve also averaged 172.3 rushing yards per game in their last three games. They’ve shown improvement on both sides of the ball as the season has progressed, making them a dangerous team entering the playoffs.
They Have the League’s Number One Defense
The Bills’ defense has been outstanding this season.
Buffalo finished first in total yards allowed per game, points allowed per game, passing yards allowed, and third-down conversion percentage. They allow just 17 points per game on the season and just 15 PPG in the last four.
The Bills have only given up more than 21 points once since Week 11, and that game was against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
They Have Josh Allen
While Josh Allen likely won’t win the MVP this year as many Buffalo fans had hoped, he has still had a terrific season. Allen threw for 4407 yards, ran for 763, and had 42 total touchdowns.
He’s one of the few quarterbacks in the league that can take over a game with his legs as much as he can with his arm. Last Sunday, he showcased this when he ran for 63 yards against the New York Jets with a 12.6 average per rush. He also rushed for 109 in Week 14 against the Buccaneers.
At 6’5, 237 lbs, Allen is able to see over linemen and find gaps in the defense to run through. This could be the year that Josh Allen finally makes the leap and takes his team to the Super Bowl.
Can the Bills Win It All?
Without a truly dominant team in the AFC this year, I believe that the Buffalo Bills have an excellent chance to go all the way to the Super Bowl.
