There’s an old saying that defense wins championships. That might be true, but it can also help you win under bets. Now that we’re in Week 12 of the NCAA football season, teams are starting to play their best defensive football.

The most current NCAAF betting lines reflect who the best college football defenses are. So before you make your bets this week, let’s dive into the top four NCAA teams.

1. Wisconsin Badgers

Badgers head coach Paul Chryst is famous for his blistering offenses. So when he took his first head coaching position at the University of Pittsburgh, he was one of the most sought-after offensive coordinators in the country.

This year, the Badgers dominate on the defensive side of the ball. They rank first for total defense in the NCAA.

Throughout the 2021 season, they’ve smothered opponents on the ground, allowing only 60.6 rushing yards per game.

They’re also a crushing pass defense that allows only 155.7 passing yards per game. This defense also has a respectable 30 team sacks, showing they can get to the opposing quarterback.

Wisconsin held the opposition to a touchdown or less in five games, making any game they play a good candidate for a bet on the under.

2. Georgia Bulldogs

Kirby Smart’s Georgia Bulldogs defense is so good it may be historic. They’re currently running roughshod on the SEC, and they’re second in total defense.

They play a smothering style that’s also aggressive. The Bulldogs rank fifth in team sacks, with 34 coming into Week 12 of the NCAA football schedule.

The most staggering Georgia defensive statistic is how little the opposition scores. They’ve only allowed 14 or more points once this season.

3. Oklahoma State Cowboys

The Big 12 isn’t traditionally known for its strong defensive units. This conference features high-flying teams like Oklahoma and West Virginia, but Oklahoma State bucks this trend with a brutal defense.

This year, the Cowboys hold their opposition to only 16.4 points per game. In addition, they rank fifth in rushing defense and hold teams to less than 200 passing yards per game.

Defensive coordinator, Jim Knowles, has created a new culture at Oklahoma State since his 2018 arrival. The defensive-minded Cowboys continue their improvement each year, and now Knowles is a head coaching candidate.

4. Air Force Falcons

The Air Force Falcons are far from an elite college football team, but they have an elite college football defense capable of giving any top-flight program a fight.

The Falcons limit their opposition to 287.5 total yards of offense and limit opposing teams to an average of 17.6 points per game.

Because of their defense, the Air Force Falcons have gone under the posted total seven times this season. However, this week they face a Nevada team that’s shown an ability to score points.
