AFC South: Week 12 Standings and Previews

NFL Week 12

The AFC South is the most polarized division in the NFL. At the top, you have two legitimate playoff contenders. At the bottom, you have two teams that might not be in the playoffs for years to come. However, after researching the current NFL odds, I think there is a chance that each of these teams can beat the spread in their respective matchups in Week 12.

The standings of the AFC South are as follows:

  • Titans 8-3
  • Colts 6-5
  • Texans 2-8
  • Jaguars 2-8

Let’s take a look at these teams’ games this week.

Patriots vs. Titans (+6.5)

The Titans are the only AFC South team not playing at home this week, which could actually work in their favor.

The Patriots have been playing well, but they’re only 2-4 at home this season, while the Titans are 4-1 as an away team.

New England has looked excellent lately and has been getting a lot of praise, but who have they played?

In their last three games, they’ve beaten teams that are all .500 or below in the win column. The Titans will be the Patriots’ first test since Week 8 when they barely escaped the Chargers in a 27-24 victory.

Even without Derrick Henry, the Titans have continued to win games (minus last week) and are scoring an average of 24.5 points in their previous four games.

I believe they get back on track Sunday and get the win in Foxborough.

Buccaneers at Colts (+2.5)

Jonathan Taylor is an official MVP candidate.

After running all over the Bills’ ninth-ranked rush defense, it’s hard to bet against the Colts right now.

Taylor’s had eight straight games with 100 scrimmage yards and a rushing touchdown, and in those eight games, the Colts are 6-2. They’re now officially a top-five offense, ranking 5th in points per game (28.1).

I don’t expect his dominance to stop anytime soon, even against the Buccaneers. However, it’s important to note that the Bucs are also playing on a short week, having just battled the Giants on Monday.

I think Taylor and the Colts will play a physical game on Sunday and edge it out versus Brady’s Buccaneers.

Jets at Texans (-2.5)

The Jets season is basically over, in my opinion, and their never-ending rebuild continues.

Not only do they have quarterback issues, but their defense also ranks worst in the NFL in yards allowed per game at 414.2.

I believe that the Texans are a better team with Tyrod Taylor back. They just upset the Titans behind Taylor’s two rushing touchdowns and have held their last two opponents to an average of 15 points.

Look for Houston to win another game against a Jet’s team that’s last in the NFL in turnover margin per game (-1.5).

Falcons at Jaguars (+1)

Matt Ryan and his Falcons are in a freefall. They’ve put up a combined three points in their past two games and given up a combined 68 points.

The Jaguars haven’t had a stellar season either, but Jacksonville has some positive signs of development.

Trevor Lawrence is improving his decision-making abilities, and he hasn’t thrown in an interception in his past three games.

The Jacksonville defense is surprisingly ranked 3rd in opponent yards per rush (3.9), and Ryan will have to throw to beat them, which hasn’t been working well.

I’m happily fading the Falcons here and backing the Jags with cautious optimism.
