Going into Week 8 of the NFL season, the big story now is the Arizona Cardinals’ chances of going undefeated. NFL betting trends are getting lots of interest, with the Cardinals now at +6500 to go undefeated for the regular season.
But let’s not forget that there are seventeen games this season. So let’s take a closer look at Arizona’s schedule and see if they can become the first to go 17-0 in the regular NFL season.
Inside The Cardinals’ Stats
Much of the talk about the Arizona Cardinals’ success so far centers around the offense. Kyler Murray continues to elude pass rushers and spread the ball around. Christian Kirk, DeAndre Hopkins, and newcomer Zach Ertz all caught TD passes in Week 7.
Yet more than that, the Cardinals are 5th in the NFL in rushing yards. They’re also sixth in passing yards and fourth in points per game.
But, with all that firepower, it’s easy to forget how dominant this defense has been. The Cardinals aren’t only in the top ten in sacks and interceptions this NFL season.
The Arizona Cardinals defense is in the top ten in sacks and interceptions this season. They’re also third in passing yards and points against and 4th in total yards. This is a well-balanced and explosive football team.
The Cardinals’ Schedule
Assuming the Arizona Cardinals get past the Green Bay Packers in Week 8, they benefit from a few days of extra rest. Then, they’ll need the time to prepare for a divisional matchup with the San Francisco 49ers. This game and the following three are all winnable games for the Cardinals.
Week 14 is the next big test when Arizona plays the Rams, who have stayed hot on their heels up to now. LA is 6-1 going to Week 8, their only loss coming at home to the Cardinals. So, the Rams will be highly motivated for revenge as well as squaring the season series.
The Arizona Cardinals can run the table with only the Dallas Cowboys to contend with in Week 17 as significant obstacles. But, as they take each game as they come, they will need a big performance against Green Bay this Thursday.
Packers vs. Cardinals (-3.5)
This week, the competition gets stiffer, and the Cardinals have a short week to prepare. The Packers vs. Cardinals on national TV Thursday night looms large for their run to 17-0.
The Cardinals coaching staff has worked hard to create a mindset of looking at each game as it comes. For example, before the Texans game last week, Kyler Murray said he doesn’t believe in trap games. Their rather convincing win against Houston is solid proof of that.
On a shortened Week 8 schedule, the Cardinals have the benefit of staying at home. However, Green Bay has to travel, which is good for Arizona because Aaron Rogers is the best quarterback the Cardinals will have seen thus far in the 2021 NFL season.
Still, the numbers show Kyler Murray ahead in most categories. And the glaring figure here is the points scored for each team. While the Cardinals keep putting up 30+ points per game, the Packers are struggling lately to score more than 24.
The NFL betting lines show the Cardinals as a 3.5-point favorite to win at home. However, when you consider the home team generally gets a 3 point swing, oddsmakers view this game as a toss-up.
Arizona Cardinals Keep Rolling
Kliff Kingsbury doesn’t need more motivating factors to get another win. But the odds still say not everyone is a believer. So once again, until they prove me wrong, I believe that the Arizona Cardinals will win this game by a touchdown or more.
