Stuarts family is passionate about rugby. His father, John Hogg, also played rugby for the Harwick team, before becoming a referee later in life. His brother played for Scotland in the IRB Sevens World series, and also represented the country in U18, U19, and U20 rugby.
Only Hogg and Brian ODriscoll have won two Player of the Six Nation awards in a row. Stuart won this award the first time in 2016, and again in 2017.
In 2017 the fullback joined in a charity FIFA 20 tournament. The winner of the tournament would receive $2000 to donate to charity. In 2019 he also took part in a charity event where he helped coach young rugby talent. This event was organized to help support injured players.
