- The Munich Open is the German alternative to playing in Barcelona this week.
- The total prize purse for the 2026 Munich Open is about $3 million.
The ATP is in a natural lull this week, stuck between last week’s 1,000-point contest in Monte Carlo and next week’s large tournament in Madrid.
Many players prefer to play the Barcelona Open, since they’ll be in Spain next week anyway for the 96-player singles draw and huge cash prize. But Barca isn’t the only European city hosting a significant tournament this week, in the middle of clay season.
Like Barcelona, Munich’s BMW Open has 500 points and a sizable prize purse up for grabs. The draw includes world No. 3 Alexander Zverev, playing on home soil and defending his 2025 Munich championship.
American Ben Shelton, who is playing as the No. 2 seed, is expected to be one of the primary challengers to Zverev.
