Reigning WBC welterweight world champion Mario Barrios defends his title against Ryan Garcia on Feb. 21, as they’ll headline the boxing event inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Although he’s the defending titleholder, Barrios is going to be the betting underdog with +175 boxing odds. On the other hand, Garcia, who hasn’t won a major boxing world title, will be the betting favorite with -200 odds. A draw result has odds of +1600.

Mario Barrios vs. Ryan Garcia: Prediction

My prediction is a unanimous decision win for Garcia over Barrios because he’s the quicker boxer. This speed advantage will allow Garcia to land more punches than Barrios throughout the fight and sway the judges in giving him the victory.

Both have bad habits, with Garcia leaving his chin open in exchanges that make him vulnerable to counterpunches. Meanwhile, Barrios remains flat-footed in exchanges and doesn’t have good head movement to avoid the punches coming his way.

Among the two, I think Garcia can hide his bad habit by firing jabs and his signature atomic left hook to keep Barrios at bay. I will not be surprised if Garcia knocks down Barrios, as the defending champion struggles with opponents who are faster than him.

Mario Barrios’ Recent Fight Results

Barrios is the current WBC welterweight titleholder and has been undefeated in his last five fights. In this stretch, he scored wins over Jovanie Santiago, Yordenis Ugas, and Fabian Andres Maidana, but had draws with Abel Ramos and Manny Pacquiao.

Ryan Garcia’s Recent Fight Results

Garcia is a young boxing contender who continuously moves up in weight. In his last five fights, he defeated Javier Fortuna and Oscar Duarte, had a no-contest result with Devin Haney, and absorbed losses to Gervonta Davis and Rolando Romero.
