I predict that Edwards will cruise into a unanimous decision victory because of his wealth of experience and elite-level defensive skills, which can frustrate any aggressive fighter in the weight class, including Yafai.

Rodriguez may have solved the puzzle of Edwards’ defensive prowess, and Yafai can certainly take some notes from that fight, but he doesn’t have enough experience at the pro level like the American power puncher.

This isn’t a knock on Yafai’s skills because, after all, he’s an Olympic medalist. However, his execution and championship experience are still not enough at this point of his career, with only eight pro fights under his belt.

Edwards will be happy to utilize his footwork and counter-punching ability to score points on the judges’ scorecards and cruise to another decision win. A win for Edwards could bolt him again toward another world title fight in the foreseeable future.

Edwards is a multiple-time national boxing champion who debuted in September 2016 and defeated Sergey Tasimov by a decision. Since then, he captured several minor titles before beating Moruti Mthalane in April 2021 to become the IBF flyweight champion.

The British star successfully defended the belt four times. He then challenged Jesse Rodriguez in December for the unification of the IBF and WBO championships, but suffered a ninth-round retirement. Edwards redeemed himself by beating Adrian Curiel in his last outing via a ninth-round technical decision.

Yafai was a former Olympic gold medalist from the 2020 Tokyo Games before transitioning to the pro ranks. He debuted in February 2022 against Carlos Vado Bautista and won the vacant WBC International Flyweight title.
