Xander Zayas vs. Abass Baraou: Prediction

Zayas’ speed and movement are why I pick him to win by unanimous decision against Baraou. This will allow him to land his signature combinations and score points on the judges’ scorecards.

Zayas’ best combinations are the one-two jab-straight and the left hook-straight punches. This has been his bread and butter, with which he’s been successful in landing devastating punches against his opponents. It’s going to be an effective combination against Baraou, as he doesn’t have enough head movement and walks in a straight line when throwing his punches.

Neither fighter is known to be a heavy volume puncher, but Zayas is more accurate, and I believe he’ll be able to frustrate Baraou throughout 12 rounds with his quickness, sharp counterpunching, and elite footwork.

Xander Zayas’ Recent Fight Results

Zayas is an amateur standout who competed three times in the US National Youth Championships before turning pro in 2019. He’s still undefeated in 22 career bouts and is fresh off a unanimous decision against Jorge Garcia Perez in July to capture the vacant WBO super welterweight title.

Abass Baraou’s Recent Fight Results

Baraou is also a boxing standout from the amateur scene, before joining the professional ranks in 2018. He has won several minor titles but suffered a close split decision loss to Jack Culcay in August 2020. Baraou’s most recent victory came against Yoenis Téllez, whom he outpointed in August.
