  • Brazil and Switzerland both got wins in their first game.
  • Switzerland will defend deep, so I expect a low score.
  • Brazil will eventually break the Swiss down and win the game.

Brazil and Switzerland both got their FIFA World Cup campaigns off to a winning start. Brazil overcame a dogged Serbia 2-0, while Switzerland scraped by a vibrant and vivacious Cameroon to win 1-0.

Richarlison was the main man for Brazil against Serbia. Can he put on another devastating display? Or will the well-drilled Swiss setup be enough to shackle Brazil’s attacking talent?

Brazil vs. Switzerland Analysis

Richarlison has been on a rich run of form for Brazil, which continued in their opening World Cup match against Serbia. It was the Tottenham striker’s double that separated the two sides on Thursday.

As expected, Brazil dominated the possession, but a well-drilled and determined Serbia side made it difficult for the Brazilians to find a way through. The game was tied at half-time despite a positive showing from Tite’s men.

Vinícius Júnior was lively throughout, and he had a hand in both of Richarlison’s goals. Of course, it was the striker’s second goal – a worldie bicycle kick – that grabbed the headlines, and rightly so. It showed why this Brazil side is the tournament favorite and what they can do when given the space.

In Switzerland, they come up against a team that is very similar to Serbia in how they play and set up.

The Swiss were sub-par in the first half against Cameroon, with the lively African outfit having most of the chances on goal. Luckily for Switzerland, Cameroon’s finishing was profligate, and they couldn’t take their opportunities.

The second half was much better from Switzerland, and they went ahead through Cameroon-born Breel Embolo. They would have had more goals if it wasn’t for some spirited last-gasp defending.

Murat Yakin must get his team to the next gear, however, if they want to overcome Brazil. A draw here for Switzerland will be a good enough result, so I expect them to sit deep, defend well and try hit on the counter.

As we saw against Serbia, however, this kind of style plays right into Brazil’s hands, and I expect the score to be similar too.

Brazil will have to be patient but will overcome Switzerland to take all three points.
