Before Bryce Young started a game as Alabama’s quarterback, head coach Nick Saban said the sophomore has approached “ungodly numbers” in NIL deals. Now, whether you’re a great, good, or above-average starting QB for the Crimson Tide, you’re still Alabama’s QB1, which comes with plenty of name recognition. So it makes sense that Young was cashing in on deals before playing any meaningful reps.
But the college football betting odds felt confident the five-star recruit wouldn’t be a good or above-average quarterback. He was going to be a great one.
Young was the No. 2 favorite to win the Heisman trophy when the odds opened at BetMGM. His +1000 odds were behind Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler (+800).
One game later, and Young has soared to the top.
Young went 27-of-38 passing for 344 yards, four touchdowns, and zero interceptions in No. 1 Alabama’s 44-13 win against No. 15 Miami. His odds to win the Heisman went from +1000 to +425.
Rattler’s odds dropped from +800 to +900 after going 30-of-39 for 304 yards, one touchdown, and two picks against Tulane.
The biggest rise after Week 1 was Cincinnati QB Desmond Ridder. His Heisman’s odds went from +5000 to +2000 after throwing for 295 yards (20-of-25), four touchdowns, and one interception versus Miami (OH).
