When looking into Week 4 NFL games, the Chicago Bears vs. Detroit Lions is an exciting matchup for online sports betting enthusiasts.

Both teams are coming off of tough losses and will be looking to bounce back. Both NFC North teams are likely facing an uphill battle against the Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers in the division.

The game Sunday is a step toward figuring out what kind of season the Bears and Lions are likely to have, and there are several moving parts at play when looking at this matchup.

From a betting perspective, it’s an intriguing game because the Bears are 3.5 point favorites going into the matchup. Here’s what you need to know about this game and why this point spread is an exciting proposition.

The Detroit Lions Have Played Tough, Even in Losses

First and foremost, the Lions are in rebuild mode, but their record doesn’t indicate just how close and downright thrilling their games have been thus far.

They lost a nail-biter to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 1 and then struggled against the Green Bay Packers. Then, this past Sunday, the Lions lost a 19-17 heartbreaker to the Baltimore Ravens.

The team has shown some grit and resolve, an attribute that newly acquired quarterback Jared Goff promised will start to pay off. Goff is buying into his new team’s system and says that the team carried a winning mindset into the game.

Goff is chomping at the bit to prove that he can lead an NFL franchise, particularly seeing how Matt Stafford, the quarterback he was traded for, is thriving as part of the Los Angles Rams.

The Bears Roll Into Week 4 Incredibly Vulnerable

When you need a team to bounce back against, the Chicago Bears are a great candidate. The Bears are in a state of flux right now, as head coach Matt Nagy said on Monday that every quarterback is in play to start this week against Detroit.

The quarterback situation in Chicago is due to poor play, ineffective coaching, and injuries. Andy Dalton missed this past Sunday due to a knee bruise and is likely to miss another week or two unless his recovery goes excellently this week.

Rookie Justin Fields started this past Sunday but racked up a measly 68 yards and got sacked nine times. Super Bowl-winning third-string quarterback Nick Foles is the likely starter going into this Sunday’s matchup.

While the Lions have also struggled, they’ve been developing familiarity under center, and running back D’Andre Swift is heating up. The Bears have also given up the 12th most rushing yards in the NFL. Look for Detroit to try to control the clock with their running game.

The Bears are a -3.5 point favorite right now, but later in the week, the line could change once coach Nagy announces the starting quarterback.

Expect the Detroit Lions to Cover the Spread

All in all, I expect that the Detroit Lions will win a low-scoring game. They’re the scrappiest 0-3 team in the league right now, and they have an excellent opportunity to keep the ball on the ground against Chicago to take pressure off of Jared Goff.
