2021 has all the makings of a legendary season for NFL betting. We’ve seen betting favorites struggle, underdogs rise to the top of their division, and several games come down to last-second field goals through three weeks. We’ve also seen the development of an interesting situation in Chicago, where the team doesn’t know who their starting quarterback will be four days away from their next game.

The Chicago Bears had arguably the most exciting pick of the draft in promising quarterback Justin Fields. However, after an abysmal loss to the Cleveland Browns this past Sunday, the Bears have some soul searching to do.

They also have some quarterback searching to do, at least for this Sunday. So read on to learn the latest Chicago Bears news regarding their QB situation.

Fields Had a Tough First Career Start

Bears fans had to pump the brakes on the Justin Fields enthusiasm for a bit after this Sunday’s performance against the Cleveland Browns.

Justin Fields was sacked nine times and completed just 6 of his 20 attempts for 68 total passing yards. He had to fight for everything he got, and in the end, the Bears fell to the Browns 26-6.

To add injury to insult, Fields suffered an injury to his throwing hand. His X-rays after the game were negative, but now the bears have to ask whether they’re ready to throw their still learning and possibly vulnerable young quarterback to the wolves again so soon. They also have to decide if their coach, Matt Nagy, is the right person to lead the team and develop a potential franchise quarterback.

They face the Detroit Lions this Sunday and will have some decisions to make after a week of practice.

All Three Quarterbacks Are Hurt, and All Are in Play to Start Sunday

When Bears head coach Matt Nagy addressed reporters on Monday, he said that all three quarterbacks are in the mix to start this weekend. Here’s what you should know about each:

Nick Foles

If I had to guess, I’d say that veteran Nick Foles is probably the favorite to start. They brought him back to the active roster as Fields’ backup last game.

Foles is a competent Super Bowl-winning quarterback and will have a softer test in division opponent Detroit this week. Since Foles has the most experience, he’ll most likely take the first-team reps in practice.

Andy Dalton

It’s looking like Dalton, who came into the season as the starting quarterback, could miss a couple more weeks since his knee injury is a bit more severe than previously expected. Since accuracy and throwing power relies heavily on a quarterback’s base and legs, you would think they wouldn’t want to rush Dalton back.

Justin Fields

Could Fields get a chance to redeem himself with another start this Sunday? Possible, but not likely. Not only did Fields have a poor showing, but Nagy took tons of criticism about his play-calling from sports media.

It makes sense that he’d go into this Sunday preserving his rookie while trying to get a bounce-back win. This game against Detroit could determine whether Nagy keeps his job until the end of the season.

Stayed Tuned to Chicago Bears News and Bets During the Season

The points above are food for thought as we move toward the Chicago Bears’ next matchup this Sunday. The Bears will try to find their footing as they bounce back against the Lions with a very raw quarterback under center and some injury issues.
