After Oklahoma’s upset win over Georgia on Monday night, the Bulldogs are slotted into the loser’s bracket. They’ll need to survive a CWS first-round rematch against Texas to earn another shot at Oklahoma.
If anyone has the talent to pull this off, it’s Georgia. The Bulldogs probably remain the deepest and most balanced team remaining in the College World Series, which is one reason they’re entering Tuesday night’s do-or-die game as a favorite in BetMGM’s college baseball odds.

This may be an elimination game for Georgia, but the Dawgs enter Tuesday night’s rematch against Texas with a fully intact bullpen. Joey Volchko threw a 113-pitch complete game on Saturday, and Caden Aoki threw a 116-pitch complete game (in eight innings) last night.
That preserves a lot of creative pitching options for Georgia, even if the odds market says the game is roughly a toss-up.
Georgia jumped on Texas early on Saturday, ultimately winning 7-1. But it’s worth pointing out that five of the Bulldogs’ seven runs were unearned. Go back and watch the disastrous first inning, where the Texas pitching battery was responsible for a walk, two HBP’s, a two-run homer, and two different batters successfully advancing to first base after striking out. Yikes.
Tuesday’s showdown may not be so marred by mistakes. Still, Texas has thrown seven total arms over the last three days, which puts it at a relative disadvantage to Georgia’s fully rested pen.
Texas exploded for 14 runs against Alabama on Monday, which could be cause for optimism for Longhorns fans. But given how lifeless Alabama had looked over the weekend – combined with the virtual free pass it got against St. John’s in the Super Regionals – it might be easy to overread that production.
I like the Georgia side here, since it’s the best team remaining in the field. But I also expect this to be a low-scoring affair, as both managers will empty the bag on pitching moves, which means the under is also in play. The SGP implications should be clear, too.
