There’s a lot to get excited about this weekend if you’re a college football betting fan. Week 12 is highlighted by a Big Ten clash between the Michigan State Spartans and the Ohio State Buckeyes in Columbus. Both teams come into the game with just one loss, but another one here would all but end either program’s playoff hopes.
Meanwhile, Oklahoma looks to bounce back against Iowa State after suffering a loss to Baylor last week, and Wake Forest aims to secure the ACC Atlantic with a win against Clemson. If you’re looking to add some extra excitement to the action, I’ve got you covered. Here are a few of the best college bets for this weekend’s lineup.
Virginia at Pittsburgh (-14.5)
This is probably my favorite pick of the week. Pitt is coming off an OT win against North Carolina last week, and Heisman candidate Kenny Pickett will look to pad his stats against a Virginia defense that has been a disaster all season long. The Cavaliers are giving up 461.9 yards and 30.5 points per game.
Furthermore, Quarterback Brennan Armstrong is still day-to-day with a rib injury, and the Cavs didn’t fare well without him last week, losing 28-3 to Notre Dame. The Panthers’ offense is explosive, averaging 43.5 points this season and piling up an incredible 531.2 yards on average. I’m taking the Panthers to cover at home here.
Michigan (-14.5) at Maryland
After a solid start to the season for Maryland, things have unraveled down the stretch. The Terrapins have lost five out of their last six, and most of them in lopsided fashion. In that span, they’ve been outscored 257-120 and are zero for their last six against the spread.
The Wolverines have been solid all year long and are trying to work their way into the CFB Playoff hunt. After suffering a loss in the Paul Bunyan game against Michigan State, Jim Harbaugh’s Wolverines have responded with two straight wins against Indiana and Penn State. They’ve averaged 34.7 points per game while giving up just 16.1 and have been cover-machines this season at 8-2 ATS.
Oregon (+3) at Utah
In a preview of what could be the Pac-12 Championship Game, the Oregon Ducks head to Salt Lake City to take on the Utah Utes. The Ducks have high hopes for another College Football Playoff berth, sitting at 9-1 and first in the Pac-12 North. However, the Utes hold first place in the South by a game over Arizona State and own the tiebreaker.
The Ducks’ ground game has been punishing this season and has averaged a lofty 227.4 yards per game. They’ve also managed to keep the chains moving with a 51.56% 3rd down conversion rate, something they’ll need to continue to escape Utah with a victory. I was surprised to see the Ducks as a three-point dog in this one and will happily take them with the points on the road.
