College Football Teams Undefeated Against the Spread in 2021

Greg Schiano wants to win a national championship at Rutgers, he said in December 2019 at an introductory press conference for a second tenure as Scarlet Knights’ head coach. He planned to find “Rutgers men” in recruiting, work with the community to build support for the program, and tap the “special” potential of his relationship with athletics director Pat Hobbs.

Oddly, Schiano made no mention of Rutgers obliterating college football spreads and chasing a perfect season against the spread (ATS).

Three games into his third season, Schiano’s program is one of only 15 in the country without an ATS loss, only 10 of which have three ATS wins against zero losses, and zero ties. And the Scarlet Knights have reached 3-0-0 ATS thanks to the second-best average cover plus-minus (i.e., the average number of points by which they cover per game) in college football. Only Michigan (plus-18.8), their Week 4 opponent, is covering spreads by a larger margin than Rutgers (plus-17.5).
