We’re officially halfway through the college football season. Heading into Week 9 of the season, bettors have figured out who the best teams in the country are after a wild first half of the season. Bettors have also figured out which teams can punch above their weight class, making them dangerous underdogs.

If you’re looking to bet the underdogs in your college football betting this week, you’ll want to know about these six matchups.

Read on to learn about the best NCAAF underdog odds this week.

Michigan at Michigan State

Michigan State is at home and is a 4.5 point underdog. It’s a rivalry game, so many people expect the game to be close. While Michigan State is the underdog, home underdogs are generally a good bet. MSU also has one of the best running backs in college football in Kenneth Walker III and a stingy defense that only gives up 18.71 points per game.

This should be the game of the week, and it looks like it could go either way. Michigan State is not a bad pick here with a money line of +165.

Texas at Baylor

Texas is coming off a bye week that followed a heartbreaking loss to Oklahoma. Texas is a 3-point underdog against Baylor, and on paper, it’s easy to see why.

This year, Baylor’s 3-3-5 defense has given opponents trouble, ranking 19th in scoring defense and ninth in turnover margin. However, their offense also features one of the best ground attacks in the country. This isn’t to say that Texas can’t win this game, though.

This year, quarterback Casey Thompson has played stellar, and Xavier Worthy looks like a rising star for the Longhorns. On defense, linebacker DeMarvion Overshown will have the task of disrupting Baylor’s offense in the backfield.

Although Baylor is an excellent team, Texas has the talent to cover or win if they can catch a few breaks.

Penn State at Ohio State

Everyone gave up on Penn State after their nine overtime loss to Illinois in Week 8. As a result, they are an 18.5-point underdog heading to Columbus this week.

Penn State vs. Ohio State has arguably become the most competitive rivalry in the Big Ten. The Nittany Lions might have had a terrible game this past week, but they’re well-coached and could look at Ohio State as their only chance of redemption this season. Penn State’s offense has struggled this season, but defensively they’ve shown glimpses of greatness.

I’m not sure if Penn State can win this game, but I see them doing just enough defensively to cover the spread and keep the game competitive.

Virginia at BYU

This is an evenly matched game, although Virginia is a 2.5 point underdog. The big story is that Coach Bronco Mendenhall goes back to coach against his former team at BYU.

Both teams are strong, but Virginia’s offense has shown this season that they can put up points quickly. In my opinion, BYU lacks the firepower of the Cavaliers. If this game turns into a shootout, I could see Virginia walking away with a victory to keep their ACC hopes alive.
