Dave Clawson and the Wake Forest Demon Deacons had a season to remember in 2021, winning 11 games and making an appearance in the ACC Championship game.
They’ll try to replicate that success and match high expectations –Wake Forest has the ACC’s second-highest win total in college football odds – with 13 returning starters led by star quarterback Sam Hartman and one of the country’s most productive receivers in A.T. Perry. New defensive coordinator Brad Lambert hopes to improve a unit that allowed over 30 points per game.
Here’s a look at Wake Forest’s schedule with dates, times, opponents, and analysis:
Week 1 – vs. VMI Keydets
Date: September 1
Time: 7:30 p.m. ET
The Demon Deacons look to extend a nine-game home winning streak to double-digits.
Week 2 – at Vanderbilt Commodores
Date: September 10
Time: 12:00 p.m. ET
Wake Forest has won five of its last six road openers. This will mark the Demon Deacons’ first game against the SEC since 2013.
Week 3 – vs. Liberty Flames
Date: September 17
Time: 5:00 p.m. ET
Led by Hugh Freeze, the Liberty Flames are one of the most challenging teams outside of the Power 5 to play against. Wake Forest has won both prior meetings.
Week 4 – vs. Clemson Tigers
Date: September 24
Time: TBD
A monumental clash with the Clemson Tigers comes before the calendar flips to October. Wake Forest has not defeated Clemson since 2008.
This could be a dark horse College GameDay location if things fall in Wake’s favor.
Week 5 – at Florida State Seminoles
Date: October 1
Time: TBD
The Demon Deacons look to avoid a letdown spot after the Clemson game when they travel to Tallahassee. The visiting team has won four of the last five meetings.
Week 6 – vs. Army Black Knights
Date: October 8
Time: TBD
Wake Forest has won 10 of the last 11 games against the Army Black Knights. Last year’s game was a 70-56 shootout win for Dave Clawson and company.
Week 7 – BYE
Week 8 – vs. Boston College Eagles
Date: October 22
Time: TBD
Three of the last four meetings have ended victoriously for the Demon Deacons. Wake has also won three of its last four games following a bye.
Week 9 – at Louisville Cardinals
Date: October 29
Time: TBD
The first of two challenging road games in a row sees the Demon Deacons travel to Louisville to face the Cardinals. Wake has won three of the last five meetings entering a pivotal game for Scott Satterfield, who’s likely on the college football hot seat entering the season.
Week 10 – at NC State Wolfpack
Date: November 5
Time: TBD
This could potentially be a pivotal showdown in the Atlantic Division for the second straight season. Last year’s 45-42 Wake Forest win was the deciding factor in the divisional race, and the Wolfpack are primed for another run in 2022.
Week 11 – vs. North Carolina Tar Heels
Date: November 12
Time: TBD
The home team has won seven consecutive meetings, which is a welcome sign for Wake Forest. Last year the North Carolina Tar Heels won a 58-55 shootout to tarnish the Demon Deacons’ perfect 8-0 record to start the year.
Week 12 – vs. Syracuse Orange
Date: November 19
Time: TBD
Wake Forest has won four of the last six meetings with the Syracuse Orange.
Week 13 – at Duke Blue Devils
