Baker Mayfield has spent a lot of his life as a controversial quarterback.ย

First was his time at Oklahoma, regarding a certain flag-planting incident that upset one or two Ohio State fans. Then came his time as lead man in Cleveland, where he led the Browns back to the playoffs for the first time in forever.ย

When the Browns regressed, Mayfield was traded to Carolina, where he was scorned as a wasted talent.ย

Mayfield was waived, claimed by the Rams, and ultimately ended up signing a small contract with Tampa Bay in 2023 as the successor to Tom Brady. And as quarterback of the Bucs, he has thrived, providing a deft mix of crafty athleticism and veteran playmaking.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers odds remain very relevant in the NFC South and beyond. And maybe most impressively, Mayfield has done it all while playing on a relatively affordable contract.ย

Well โ€ฆ itโ€™s affordable for an NFL quarterback contract, at least.ย

Baker Mayfield Contract

Baker Mayfield signed a three-year contract extension worth $100 million in March 2024.ย

The deal, which came on the heels of a successful one-year contract worth $4 million, includes a number of annual performance incentives if Mayfield continues his strong play.

Baker Mayfield Signing Bonus

Baker Mayfield received a signing bonus of $28.875 million.

Baker Mayfield Salary

Baker Mayfield will make roughly $43 million from his NFL contract in 2025.ย

After a large restructure in April that cleared $14.4 million in cap space for the team, about $31 million was paid out simply as a restructuring bonus. Another $10 million was a roster bonus due in March when Mayfield remained with the team.

The remaining $2 million is base salary, with a small workout bonus on top.ย

Baker Mayfield Guaranteed Money

Baker Mayfieldโ€™s contract extension included a total of $40 million in guaranteed money at signing. That includes his signing bonus, 2024 salary, and one-third of his $30 million salary from 2025.

By the start of the 2025 season, all of Mayfieldโ€™s guaranteed money had been paid out.ย
