Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss has been locked in an eligibility conflict with the NCAA during this offseason.

The outcome of the case – which now involves the Mississippi Supreme Court, among other parties – has major implications on the 2026 Ole Miss season.

There’s good news for fans of the Rebels.

Trinidad Chambliss Eligibility Status Update

The Mississippi state judicial system overruled the NCAA, granting Chambliss’ eligibility for a sixth (and final) season in 2026.

As of now, Chambliss is expected to be eligible for the 2026 season.  He’s currently one of the top favorites in BetMGM’s Heisman Trophy odds market.

Trinidad Chambliss Medical Redshirt Year

The NCAA issue stems from Chambliss’ 2022 season at Ferris State. He took a redshirt year during his freshman campaign in 2021, expecting to contribute the following year.

That didn’t quite happen. In 2022, Chambliss missed the entire season dealing with chronic tonsillitis, which included serious respiratory issues. He never saw the field.

Down the road, Chambliss applied for a sixth year of eligibility, citing medical hardship guidelines for his missed 2022 season. The NCAA initially denied his request, taking issue with his evidentiary support.

The Mississippi courts quickly overruled the NCAA in February. The NCAA appealed that decision, but it was denied in March, with the judge citing the NCAA’s “bad faith” in assessing Chambliss’ medical history.
