Mike Shula is the offensive coordinator at South Carolina.
As the son of Don Shula, it probably will not surprise you to learn that most of Mike’s professional experience has come in the NFL. Over the last 30 years, he’s worked as the offensive coordinator and/or quarterbacks coach for the Broncos (2020-21), Giants (2018-19), Panthers (2011-18), Jaguars (2007-10), Dolphins, (2000-02), and Buccaneers (1996-99).
The only reprieve from professional football during that period was the four seasons he spent as the head coach at Alabama from 2003-06, where he directly preceded the Nick Saban dynasty.
But 20 years later, Shula is now back in the SEC – this time in Columbia. The Gamecocks’ former offensive coordinator, Dowell Loggains, left to take the open head coaching position at Appalachian State.
Shula will be head coach Shane Beamer’s third OC since he took the job in 2021. His first, Marcus Satterfield, left after 2022 to take the same job at Nebraska. (He’s since been demoted to tight ends coach.)
Other recent South Carolina offensive coordinators include Mike Bobo (2020), Bryan McClendon (2016-19), and Shawn Elliott (2012-15).
