The college basketball season is now over, and many fans aren’t even aware that College World Series odds exist at a place like BetMGM.

That means the long summer sports horizon will begin to focus on the start of the next college football season – particularly after the NFL Draft concludes later this month.

When Does the 2026 College Football Season Begin?

The 2026 college football season will begin on Saturday, Aug. 29, when a handful of Week 0 games will serve as an appetizer for the year to come.

Roughly 10% of Division I FBS teams will participate in Week 0 this year. That includes Virginia, which played in the ACC championship last year, and North Dakota State, which is making its long-awaited FBS debut.

Week 1 games will take place on or near Sept. 5, which is Labor Day weekend.

Make sure to check out my college football national championship odds analysis as the offseason unfolds.
