The Colorado Buffaloes are off to a slow start in the 2021 season with a 1-3 record.
But, as the college football betting odds show, they were never a team with high expectations. Their current odds to win the National Championship are +75000.
With that in mind, you are probably looking at bets around Colorado that do not have astronomical odds. Here is what you need to know.
Struggles on Offense
Colorado is not a team that is going to score a lot of points. The Buffaloes rank last in the Pac-12 in points per game, averaging just 13.8.
The only reason their average is that high is that they put up 35 against Northern Colorado. Colorado has put up 7, 0, and 13 points in their last three games, respectively.
Considering that Minnesota was the team that shut them out, and they just lost to Bowling Green this weekend, they’re not a team that inspires a lot of confidence.
Hope on Defense
Despite their struggles on offense, Colorado may have some hope on defense. They have shown that they can stop some teams, only allowing ten points in a close loss to Texas A&M.
On the defensive side of the field, they do have one player that stands out. Senior linebacker Nate Landman leads the conference in solo tackles with 32.
One of his best games so far was that close loss to the Aggies, where he had 10 solo tackles. Then, against Minnesota, he had 13 total tackles and a forced fumble.
However, despite getting off to a good start defensively, they have struggled of late, allowing 65 points in their last two games.
Remaining Schedule
With a 1-3 start, the season could be challenging for the Buffaloes, and it gets a little more difficult next week with a home game against USC. Here is their remaining schedule:
- Oct. 2 vs. USC
- Oct. 16 vs. Arizona
- Oct. 23 at California
- Oct. 30 at Oregon
- Nov. 6 vs. Oregon State
- Nov. 13 at UCLA
- Nov. 20 vs. Washington
- Nov. 26 at Utah
As you can see, their schedule does still has hurdles. The biggest challenges after next week are having to go on the road to face Oregon and UCLA, both of whom are in the top 25.
Betting Patterns and Predictions
The Buffaloes are only 1-3 against the spread this season.
Last week’s loss against Arizona State was the first time one of their games has gone over, so perhaps the line is starting to catch up. The one time Colorado covered a spread was in their loss to Texas A&M.
I predict that the under is not going to be as easy of a bet as it was in the early weeks of this season, especially now that they have teams with high-scoring offenses coming up on their schedule.
