NFL Week 13

It’s the Cowboys at Saints on Thursday night this week as both teams look to rebound from last week’s losses. The Saints took a Thanksgiving thumping courtesy of the Bills, and the Cowboys lost a thriller in overtime to the Raiders.

The NFL odds currently have the Cowboys as -4.5 road favorites. So let’s take a deeper look and see what we can expect from this Week 13 showdown in New Orleans.

A Rough November for the Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys started the season hot, winning six out of their first seven games and looking like a true Super Bowl contender. They’ve lost three of four, however, all to opponents in the AFC West. They’ll be happy to flip the page on the calendar and even more pleased to be done with the AFC for the regular season.

They’ll also be thrilled to get two of their key offensive weapons back in CeeDee Lamb and Amari Cooper. Lamb was a full participant in Monday’s practice and has cleared the NFL’s concussion protocol, while Cooper has missed the last two games with COVID-19 but is trending in the right direction to suit up on Thursday.

The Saints Are Spiraling

The Saints haven’t just been bitten by the injury bug this season; they’re dealing with an infestation. Since starting quarterback Jameis Winston was lost for the season in Week 8, the Saints have lost four in a row and have struggled to put points on the board.

Superstar wide receiver Michael Thomas has missed the entire season, and the usually durable Alvin Kamara has missed three straight, leaving the Saints without too many options when it comes to playmakers.

Quarterback Taysom Hill took the first-team reps in practice on Monday, suggesting that he’ll replace Trevor Siemian as the starter this week, but head coach Sean Payton has yet to confirm it.

Cowboys at Saints: Best Bets

The Saints are looking for any spark they can get, and Taysom Hill provides it. Hill has only thrown eight pass attempts this year, but the good news is that he’s completed seven of them.

Hill might not be an upgrade at QB, but the Saints need to try anything. New Orleans’ defense has been solid, especially against the run (91.9 yards per game), so if Hill can come up with a few big plays, the Saints might have a chance to cover the +4.5 spread.

But my money is on the Cowboys in this one, both the money line (-200) and against the spread (-4.5). Even if the Saints can stuff the run, the Cowboys have their wideouts back, and Dak is coming off of a 375-yard passing game. So I look for the Cowboys to start December with a pile of points and get back to their winning ways.

Who Will Prevail on Thursday Night Football?

Dallas (7-4) is looking to put November behind them, while the Saints (5-6) are just looking for a way to stop the bleeding.
