In Week 9, the Denver Broncos will face the surging Dallas Cowboys. This will be a big game for the Broncos, as their schedule doesn’t get any easier. This week, we’ll find out if Denver can compete for a playoff spot without Von Miller.
Do you think the Broncos can cover the spread against the Cowboys? The latest NFL odds have the Cowboys as 8.5-point favorites.
Let’s see if the Broncos can keep up with the Cowboys this week.
NFL Denver Broncos
In their first two games of the 2021 NFL season, the Broncos covered the spread on the road, but those games were against the New York Giants and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
In their Week 3 home opener, the Broncos shut out the New York Jets, 26-0, to start the season 3-0.
The Broncos then lost their next three matchups by more than a touchdown. Then, in Week 7, they couldn’t beat the Cleveland Browns, who were without their starting quarterback, Baker Mayfield.
Broncos quarterback Teddy Bridgewater threw for 187 yards with two touchdowns and an interception against the Browns, and their running game was almost non-existent. As a result, the Broncos lost, 17-14.
In many ways, the Denver Broncos are the opposite of the Dallas Cowboys this season.
Broncos vs. Cowboys
Before Week 9, the Cowboys manhandled two of their NFC East divisional opponents by an average of 22 points. Now, their only issue is quarterback Dak Prescott, who is recovering from a calf injury he sustained in Week 6.
That should be a huge factor in whether or not the Broncos can cover the spread against the Cowboys this week.
Teddy Bridgewater is going to have to play well. Otherwise, there’s no chance the Broncos can compete with the Cowboys in Dallas.
In the Broncos’ first game of the season, Bridgewater had one of his better games. He threw for 264 yards and two touchdowns against the Giants. Their running game went well, balancing the offense with Melvin Gordon and Javante Williams carrying the ball for a combined 25 rushes.
Gordon might get traded before he becomes a free agent next season. Denver also traded Von Miller to the Los Angeles, leading some to believe that the Broncos have accepted that this season is a bust. This could also be a sign that Vic Fangio is on his way out.
If they can’t run the ball against the Cowboys on Sunday and keep the Dallas offense off the field, it’s going to be a long day for Denver.
Can the Broncos Keep Up With the Cowboys?
The Cowboys have shown in their games that they can put up a lot of points early on without much effort when Prescott is their starter.
Keep an eye on those sports betting lines before you make your picks this week. If Prescott is good to go, this game could get ugly. On the other hand, if he’s not playing at 100%, that’s the only way the Broncos might cover the spread in Week 9.
