Week 5 was rough for both the Detroit Lions and the Cincinnati Bengals. Both teams lost heartbreakers, the Lions with seconds left on the clock, and the Bengals in OT.
Then there was the surprise news that Joe Burrow went to the emergency room following Sunday’s game. So, what are the NFL betting odds saying about the chances of the Detroit Lions’ defense handling Burrow and the Bengals’ potent offense?
Read on to learn more about Joe Burrow’s condition and the Lions’ defensive situation going into Week 6.
Joe Burrow Health Update
It seems Joe Burrow wasn’t letting anything take him out against the Packers, especially as the game came down to the wire.
When asked at his post-game interview, even Zac Taylor was unaware that Burrow was taken to a Green Bay emergency room to get checked out.
During the game, Burrow took a hard hit from Packers linebacker De’Vondre Campbell. Medical personnel checked him out, and he returned to the game.
It seems he was having some trouble talking following the game, and in an abundance of caution to protect the 24-year old, he went to have the throat contusion checked out.
Burrow reported to Paul Brown Stadium Monday ready for Week 6 game prep, and Taylor doesn’t expect it will impact his ability to play this week.
Burrow Hoping to Rock the Detroit Lions’ Defense
If Burrow is ready to play against the Lions, they have plenty to worry about as they prep for Week 6 in Detroit.
The former Heisman winner has played some impressive NFL football.
Week 5 brought a near-flawless performance. Burrow completed 22-of-27 pass attempts for 232 yards and two touchdowns. Even the five incomplete passes were because he was under pressure as the Packers broke through the O-line.
Be assured the Lions will work hard this week to find a way to stop both Burrow and receiver Ja’Marr Chase. The Lions have to keep pressure on Burrow while also containing him inside of the pocket.
Detroit Lions’ Defensive Situation
The Lions may be 0-5, but they’ve shown a lot of grit this season. They’re only a few plays away from having a winning record.
The Lions are rebuilding, and Head Coach Dan Campbell is preaching playing for the long haul and toughness. Yet, some question whether the Detroit Lions’ defensive lineup has enough talent to slow Burrow and the Bengals.
Charles Harris and the front seven will have their work cut out for them. They cannot allow Joe Burrow to move around the pocket and extend plays, or the Bengals could hit deep passes against their secondary.
Can the Detroit Lions’ Defense Pull Off the Unexpected?
Will the Detroit Lions’ defense be able to stop the Bengals and Joe Burrow? Their record might say no, but the Lions have shown some surprising grit this season. I believe that this will be a low-scoring game and could come down to which team does better running the football.
