The Detroit Lions are entering Week 8 in the back of the NFC North and with zero wins on the season.
So, it’s likely the NFL betting world is wondering if the Lions can rebound from their close loss to the Rams and put some points on the board.
The Lions’ track record certainly isn’t in their favor, yet so many of their losses were close. Will this be the week they can score enough points and pull off a win?
Read on to learn more about the Lions’ chances of scoring 21 points and potentially winning against the Eagles.
The Lions Offense
Can the Lions score 21 points against the Eagles? Well, it’s hard to predict anything when it comes to the Lions.
It doesn’t look promising for them when you look at what they’ve done so far this season.
In Week 1, the Lions scored over 21 points when they lost to the 49ers 41-33. Since then, not only have they not won, but they haven’t scored 21 points in a game.
Some would argue the Lions’ have shown some promise and grit. So, is it only a matter of time before they get past 17 or 19 points, which seems to be where they get stuck?
Who to Watch for the Lions
Dan Campbell has proven he isn’t afraid to play gutsy football. While the dismal record might not reflect it, his play-calling has been aggressive and has, at least, kept the Lions close in several of their losses.
Nobody wanted to beat the Rams more in Week 7 than Jared Goff. A little revenge might have tasted sweet. But, instead, he might have shown why the Rams sent him to Detroit. In big moments, he struggles to be consistent.
If things get tight against the Eagles, many will wonder if Goff can get the job done.
Watch for star running back D’Andre Swift to be a factor against the Eagles. While the Lions have had some close games, some in the football world wonder if the Lions are using Swift’s talent enough.
Swift averages 17.1 touches per game, which puts him 12th compared to other running backs in the league. A nagging groin injury is likely holding them back from using him more. Could putting the ball in his hands more mean more points for the Lions?
Also, watch for the Lions’ other backfield weapon, Jamaal Williams, to be a factor. While the Lions weren’t expected to be competitive against the Rams in Week 7, once it was close, Williams became a factor.
He’s averaging a career-best 4.4 yards per rush and had hands on the ball twelve times against the Rams.
What to Expect From the Eagles Defense
While it’s easy to point at the Lions record and make assumptions about what will happen on Halloween, the Eagles are having their problems, too, as they come into Week 8 at 2-5 overall.
Look for the Eagles’ defense to be challenged, and dare we say, Philadelphia might even lose to the Lions.
Will the Eagles keep the Lions from scoring 21 points? They need more tough play than just the pull-it-together defense they’ve shown in the fourth quarter this year.
Can the Detroit Lions Win in Week 8?
This week, the Lions might just score more than 21 points and pull off an upset on the Eagles. If Detroit is going to stop their losing streak, this would be the best opportunity for them to do so.
