The streaking Miami Dolphins head to the Big Easy this Monday to take on the New Orleans Saints. The Dolphins have now won six straight games to shoot up the AFC standings, while the Saints are coming off a massive upset against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to keep their playoff hopes alive.
It’s your last chance to get your Monday Night Football bets in for the 2021 calendar year, so let’s break it down and look at some of the NFL best bets for this game.
Monday Night Football Information
Before we get started on the bets for this game, here are the details you need to know:
- Who: Dolphins at Saints
- Date: Monday, Dec. 27th
- Time: 8:15 p.m. EST
- Venue: Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, LA
Total: Under 38.5
If you happened to watch last Sunday night’s game between the Saints and Bucs, you witnessed one of the best defensive performances of the year. The Saints were ferocious on defense and frustrated Tom Brady all night.
New Orleans pitched a shutout against the No. 1 scoring offense in the league and on the road at that. The Saints are now sixth in the league in points against (20.4) and have allowed just nine total in its last two games.
While the defense has played well, the offense has struggled. In three starts, Taysom Hill and the Saints have averaged just 18.7 points. Even that low number is inflated because of a 30-point performance against the New York Jets.
The Dolphins have played some stellar defense themselves, allowing only 13.1 PPG over their previous six matches (all wins). On offense, the Dolphins rank 21st in the league in points scored (20.4). They have padded those numbers recently with wins against a string of sub-.500 teams.
I believe that because of these two teams’ strong defenses and struggles on offense, this will be a low-scoring game that hits the under.
Dolphins To Win by 1–6 (+360)
I think touchdowns will be hard to come by in this game for the reasons above. The Saints mustered just three field goals of offense on Sunday against a good Tampa defense and will now face a defense of similar skill.
The Saints and Dolphins are eerily even in both points scored (22.4, 20.4) and points against (22.4, 20.3), and I think the result of this game will reflect that. While this should be a close game, I’ll give the edge to the Dolphins based on recent quarterback play.
Tua Tagovailoa has completed 77% of his passes while throwing five touchdowns and two interceptions across his last three games. Meanwhile, Taysom Hill has completed fewer than 50% of his throws in two of his previous three games and has turned the ball over four times. This is a game that could come down to a critical quarterback play, and I’ll put my money on the hot (and healthy) hand.
Throw in the fact that the Saints have struggled to win at home this year (2-4), and there’s reason to believe the Dolphins could get their seventh straight win in a tight one.
