Georgia Bulldogs vs. Alabama Crimson Tide (+6.5)
In my opinion, Georgia at Alabama is the game of the week. The SEC Championship may ultimately be the game of the year. The Bulldogs enter the game ranked number one and have a perfect 12-0 record.
Not only are they perfect, but Georgia demolished nearly every opponent on their way to the SEC Championship.
The only close game that the Bulldogs had this year was in Week 1 against then third-ranked Clemson. However, since Georgia squeaked by Clemson with a 10-3 victory, they have not looked back.
For the season, the Bulldogs have outscored opponents 488-83. In their last three games against ranked opponents, they crushed Arkansas, Kentucky, and Auburn and won each game by 17 points or more.
However, no team is going to overlook Alabama and their head coach Nick Saban. Over the last decade, Alabama has won five national championships, including last year.
Alabama finished the season 11-1 and is currently ranked third in the College Football Playoff poll. Given that record and the fact they need this win to make the CFP, it’s hard to bet against Saban and the Tide.
Iowa Hawkeyes vs. Michigan Wolverines (-10.5)
Last week, Michigan Head Coach Jim Harbaugh finally led the Wolverines to a victory over rival Ohio State. Now, Harbaugh needs one more win to earn a playoff berth.
After defeating OSU, Michigan is second in the CFP Rankings. They are 10.5-point favorites against the Hawkeyes, who are ranked 15th in the country.
Michigan finished the season 11-1, with their lone loss coming against Michigan State 37-33. Iowa finished 10-2 with big wins coming over Penn State and Iowa State.
This game will be decided in the trenches. Can Michigan’s 10th ranked rushing offense produce against Iowa’s 14th rushing defense? Last week against Ohio State (18th in rushing defense), Michigan ran for 297 yards. I believe we’ll see similar results this week.
Another question for Iowa is whether they can effectively run the ball against Aidan Hutchinson and Michigan’s front seven. Iowa’s offense currently ranks 123rd for yards per game. I don’t think they can score more than 14 points against Michigan, which will not be enough to win. So I’m taking Michigan and the spread.
Baylor Bears vs. Oklahoma State Cowboys (-5.5)
If Oklahoma State wins the Big 12 Championship game, they have a chance to sneak into the college football playoffs. The Cowboys are ranked fifth while the Bears are ninth.
This game is a rematch from Week 5 of the NCAA football season. Back in early October, the Cowboys got the best of the Bears by a score of 24-14. Since then, the Cowboys further established their defensive dominance, finishing the regular season allowing only 16.4 points per game. They also give up the third-fewest yards per game at 276.3.
Baylor runs the ball 41 times a game. That could be an issue for them, as Oklahoma State has the fifth-best rushing defense in the nation. I think the Cowboys’ defense will limit Baylor’s offensive opportunities. If the Cowboys jump out to an early lead, I’m not sure Baylor can mount a comeback.
