The regular season is almost over, but there is still a lot to play for in Week 17.
There are a lot of heavy favorites this week within the NFL betting lines for bettors to choose from.
With seasons on the line and rosters decimated, let’s look at some of the Week 17 favorites that have a great chance to cover.
Los Angeles Rams
- Los Angeles Rams (-3.5) at Baltimore Ravens
- Date: Sunday, Jan. 2nd
- Time: 1:00 EST on FOX
- Venue: M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, MD
The Rams head to Baltimore amid a four-game winning streak. They’ve averaged 29.2 points per game through the last four games while holding opponents to 15.7.
Los Angeles enters the game sixth in passing yards per game (276.1) and third in yards per pass attempt (8). The Ravens defense allows the most passing yards per game (280.5) and passing attempt (7.8).
Baltimore dropped its fourth game in a row last week, giving up 41 points to the Cincinnati Bengals. Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow threw for 525 yards and four touchdowns.
Defensively, the Rams’ weakness is the pass, where they’ve given up the 25th most yards. The Ravens are 12th in passing, but Lamar Jackson remains questionable with his ankle issue.
The Rams allow the sixth-fewest rushing yards per game (96.9). The Ravens are 1-4 in the five games they’ve played against teams in the top ten for rushing yards allowed per game (two games against Cincinnati, one against Miami, and two against Cleveland). I believe that the Rams’ passing attack and rushing defense will be too much for the Ravens to overcome.
Philadelphia Eagles
- Philadelphia Eagles (-4) at Washington Football Team
- Date: Sunday, Jan. 2nd
- Time: 1:00 EST on FOX
- Venue: FedExField in North Englewood, MD
Philly will look to extend their three-game winning streak by beating Washington for the second time in three weeks. During this stretch, they’ve played fantastic football, outscoring their opponents 94-45.
The Eagles rush for more yards per game than anyone else in the league. They ran the ball 41 times for 238 yards against Washington in Week 15. However, RB Miles Sanders is out this week with a broken hand. They still have the running ability of Jalen Hurts at quarterback, along with Boston Scott, who averages 4.5 yards per rush.
Philadelphia could also have Jordan Howard, but his availability is questionable after suffering a stinger in Week 16. The team also has Kenneth Gainwell, who gives the Eagles a pass-catching option in the backfield.
The WFT has allowed 156 rushing yards per game in their last three contests, which is the fourth-most in the league. Washington has lost three straight games, and their offense has struggled as well, failing to score over 20 points in any of their last five games.
The Eagles’ defense is 12th in points allowed and has not allowed 20 points in their last four contests. I look for Jalen Hurts and company to establish the run early and force Washington to play catch-up with an ineffective offense.
Indianapolis Colts
- Las Vegas Raiders at Indianapolis Colts (-7.5)
- Date: Sunday, Jan. 2nd
- Time: 1:00 EST on FOX
- Venue: Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, IN
The Colts have won six of seven heading into this game, including wins over the Arizona Cardinals, Buffalo Bills, and New England Patriots.
They average the fifth-most points per game (28.0) and have scored at least 20 in every game since Week 3. That includes last week against the Cardinals, who are fifth in scoring defense, and two weeks ago against the Patriots, who are first.
Las Vegas allows 25.8 per game, 26th in the NFL. They’re winners of their last two games, only allowing a total of 249 rushing yards over those two games.
However, this week, they face RB Jonathan Taylor, the NFL’s leading rusher. When Jonathan Taylor rushes for over 100 yards, the Colts are undefeated. Carson Wentz has entered the COVID-19 protocols, but there’s still a small chance he could play Sunday. Even if Sam Ehlinger starts, I believe the Colts will get the victory. However, it could be a good idea to wait until Friday’s injury report before placing any bets.
