The College Playoff Semifinal game between the Georgia Bulldogs and Michigan Wolverines features two top-tier programs. The Bulldogs are 7.5 point favorites according to the college football odds on BetMGM, but they have some question marks at the quarterback position and with their pass offense.

2021 Capital One Orange Bowl Information

Date: Friday, December 31st, 2021

Time: 7:30 ET

Venue: Hard Rock Stadium, Miami Gardens, Florida

Line: Georgia -7.5

I’ll examine the Georgia vs. Michigan game in the article below. I’ll also identify the Bulldogs’ strengths and weaknesses heading into the 2021 Capital One Orange Bowl.

Georgia Has a Stud at the Tight End Position

Georgia TE Brock Bowers had a tremendous season, amassing 791 yards and 11 touchdowns. Bowers is averaging 16.8 yards per reception this season.

Against Alabama in the SEC title game, Bowers went off for ten receptions for 139 yards. Bowers will look to have a massive game against Michigan on Friday. The Michigan pass defense will be a tough test for Bowers, as they’ve given up only 194.7 yards per game and ranks 22nd in that category.

The Georgia Bulldogs’ Offense Needs to Be Better Against Michigan

Georgia ranks 54th in college football in passing yards per game and 33rd in rushing yards. They are ranked seventh in points scored per game (39.2) but only scored 24 against Alabama in the SEC Championship.

Georgia can get in trouble when they pass. This season, the Bulldogs have thrown 12 interceptions, meaning they’re averaging just under one interception per game. Georgia does not have a positive turnover differential on the season despite having a great defense.

The Georgia Bulldogs have decided that Stetson Bennett will start at quarterback. Bennett lost to the Alabama Crimson Tide in his last start but has amassed 2,325 yards and 24 touchdowns on the year.

Georgia Has One of the Nation’s Top Defenses

Georgia allows the fewest pass yards per attempt in FBS. The Bulldogs are also giving up just 172.7 passing yards per game, good for the third-best mark in college football. The defense thrives against the run, allowing just 81.7 rush yards per game, the best mark in the SEC and the third-best mark in college football.

This Bulldogs team is built on defense and avoiding mistakes. Georgia thrives by playing penalty-free football, averaging just five penalties per game.

Analyzing the Georgia Bulldogs Strengths and Weaknesses

The Georgia Bulldogs rode their defense to a 12-1 record and a chance at the College Football Championship. However, if they’re going to get to the championship game, they’ll need their offense to play mistake-free football. They’ll also have to protect the quarterback against Michigan’s dominant pass rush, and Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett will have to prove that he can deliver in the most significant moment of Georgia’s season.
