At first glance, the Giants at Dolphins matchup might not seem like a marquee matchup, but there’s plenty to be excited about for both of these teams heading into Week 13. The Miami Dolphins have been playing lights out on defense as of late, and it has resulted in four straight wins after a 1-7 start.
On the other side, the Giants are coming off a gritty defensive victory against a hot Eagles team, and star running back Saquon Barkley is finally healthy. The NFL odds have the Dolphins as 4-point favorites at home this week, and they’ll look to put themselves back into playoff contention with a fifth consecutive win. So let’s take a deeper dive into what we can expect from this game.
The Dolphins’ Defense Has Been Freakishly Good Lately
The Dolphins’ defense struggled early in the season, but now they’ve finally lived up to what I thought was their potential.
In the last four games, the Dolphins forced an astounding ten turnovers while giving up just 46 points and sacking the quarterback 16 times. During their stunning upset of the Baltimore Ravens, the Miami defense only allowed 94 rushing yards to a team that averages over 150 per game.
The Giants Rebound From Their Loss to the Bucs
After taking a 30-10 thrashing to the Bucs a couple of weeks ago, the Giants came up with a great defensive and special teams’ performance against the red-hot Eagles on Sunday to squeak out a 13-7 victory in a defensive affair.
Quarterback Daniel Jones threw for 202 yards and a touchdown, but more importantly, he didn’t throw any interceptions.
My biggest issue with the Giants is that they can’t seem to string together victories. Over the past five weeks, they’ve been on a win one, lose one trend.
Giants at Dolphins: Betting Lines and Spreads
The Dolphins enter the game at -190 on the money line and with a four-point spread. However, Miami plays with enormous confidence on defense, and the Giants struggle to move the ball.
Miami has only allowed an average of 11.5 points per game in their last four matchups. On the other hand, the Giants are 18th in passing yards per game and 26th for rushing yards.
Meanwhile, Tua Tagovailoa has been highly efficient in the last two games, completing 54 of 64 passes (84%) for three TDs and one pick.
I believe the Dolphins will win outright and cover the spread. The point total is currently at 40.5, and even that seems high for this game. The Giants are averaging just 15.8 points in their last four games. I don’t see them getting more than 14 in this game against the Dolphins defense.
Can Miami Continue Its Defensive Dominance?
The Giants at Dolphins will be a huge matchup for Miami as they continue their improbable playoff push. At 5-7, the Dolphins are still alive and have four winnable games coming up. Their next four games are against the Giants, Jets, Saints, and Titans, all teams that are either struggling this season or have injury concerns.
