Scoring across the league is down from last season but still at one of the highest rates in NFL history. This year, three teams are currently on pace to place within the top-20 points per game all-time.
NFL betting trends have favored the offense a lot lately, specifically, the point total. Elite offensive lines, explosive playmakers with the ball, and creative play-calling have some teams dominating the offensive rankings.
This year, some of the highest-scoring offenses in the NFL are chasing NFL history and not that far off.
Buffalo Bills
The Bills offense is scoring at a 32.7 point per game clip, just behind the Greatest Show on Turf Rams, who put up 32.9 per game in 1999.
After a disappointing Week 1 in which they only scored 16 points, they responded with five straight with over 30. They had a slow start in Week 8 after their bye week but, despite only getting a field goal in the first half, ended up with 26 points.
The offense is top-10 in total yards, passing yards, and rushing yards. The catalyst for their success is unquestionably quarterback Josh Allen.
In seven games, he’s thrown for 1,972 yards and 17 touchdowns with just three interceptions. He’s also second on the Bills in rushing yards with 269 yards and tied for the team lead with three rushing touchdowns.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tom Brady is no stranger to all-time great offenses. After all, the 2007 and 2012 Patriots he led are second and fifth, respectively, in single-season points per game.
What makes this year special is he’s throwing it better than ever at 44 years old. Brady’s currently passing for 331.3 yards per game, which would be a career-high and the third-highest ever.
He’s also thrown 25 touchdowns despite throwing only one combined in Weeks 3 and 4.
The Bucs also have an excellent offensive line and an all-star cast of weapons, including Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Rob Gronkowski, and Antonio Brown.
On the season, they’re averaging 32.5 per game. The Bucs’ lowest scoring output was 19 in a road win versus New England, which featured heavy rain.
Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys scoring average dipped to 32.1 after only scoring 20 without Dak Prescott in Minnesota. Still, they’ve managed at least 20 in every game. In the four weeks leading up to their bye week, they averaged 39 a game.
They’re averaging 454.9 yards per game which is the best mark in the league and would place them at third in NFL history. It should come as no surprise then that they’re top-five in both rushing and passing per game.
Like the Bills and Bucs, they have a great offensive line and quarterback. They also feature an excellent running back duo in Ezekiel Elliot and Tony Pollard. The receiving core also is one of the hardest to cover in the league.
Honorable Mentions
While those are the three highest-scoring offenses in the NFL, there are others worthy of recognition. In the NFC West, both the Cardinals and Rams average over 30 points a game. The following two teams are the Titans and the Bengals, both scoring over 27.5 points per game.
The Ravens and Chiefs are two of the most dangerous offenses in the NFL, even if they’re not at the top like people would probably expect. The team that rounds out the top-10, which may come as a surprise, is the Patriots at 25.8 points per game.
