Are you looking forward to Week 4 in the NFL? There are some exciting NFL matchups that are guaranteed to be entertaining and have enough nuance to make them intriguing from a sports betting standpoint.
Understanding the variables at play in a particular matchup is essential when looking at NFL betting lines. Below, I’ll break down a few intriguing picks that you should know about before making your Week 4 picks.
Minnesota Vikings vs. Cleveland Browns (-1)
The slight point spread in this matchup is worth noting for several reasons. First, the Vikings beat a tough Seahawks team and held Seattle scoreless in the second half in Week 3. Second, the Vikings also seem like a team that is more talented than their record suggests.
Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins is playing some of the best football in his career in the first two games, which is easy to overlook since the Vikings started 1-2.
The Browns have a tough defense, but Minnesota has faced formidable defenses in every matchup so far, and it hasn’t stopped their offense from rolling. I believe Minnesota can pull out a win in this game and put themselves back into the playoff hunt.
New York Jets vs. Tennessee Titans (-7.5)
The spread for this AFC matchup makes this an intriguing game.
Right now, oddsmakers favor the Tennessee Titans with a -7.5 point spread in their matchup. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill hasn’t hit his stride yet, throwing for four touchdowns and only three interceptions. However, running back Derrick Henry has carried the load. He most recently ran for 113 yards against the Colts.
Meanwhile, the Jets have been inept on both sides of the ball in 2021. Of course, 7.5 points is a large spread for an NFL game, and at some point, the Jets will pull out a win, but I don’t like New York’s Week 4 odds.
Detroit Lions vs. Chicago Bears (-3.5)
Rookie Justin Fields is getting his second start this Sunday for the Chicago Bears.
Now that he’s officially the starter, we’re going to see him with access to more of the playbook than we saw in the preseason. The Bears have wanted to take it slow with Fields’ development, as they see him as their franchise quarterback for the next decade.
However, he’s going to have to learn on the fly, as Andy Dalton went down with a knee injury.
Fields struggled in his debut against the Browns, completing six out of his 20 passes and getting sacked nine times. However, his performance is more of an indictment against head coach Matt Nagy than against Justin Fields.
In Week 4, he faces the Detroit Lions, which are in rebuild mode. Though Fields is a rookie with a lot to learn, he should have a better game against the Lions’ less-than-stellar defense.
Las Vegas Raiders vs. Los Angeles Chargers (-3.5)
In terms of Week 4 picks, this showdown between hot teams with California roots is one to keep an eye on.
The Las Vegas Raiders will square off against the Los Angeles Chargers on the road. Oddsmakers have the Chargers -3 favorites.
The Raiders have pulled out close wins in their first three games. I believe that trend will continue against Los Angeles, despite the Chargers’ impressive win over the Chiefs in Week 3. The Raiders defense has only allowed quarterbacks to complete 65.5% of their passes, which is 11th in the league. If they can keep pressure on Justin Herbert, the Chargers could find themselves in a lot of third and long situations.
