The NFL season continues to be full of surprises. As we enter Week 7, how will NFL betting lines look for the Jets at Patriots?
Both New York Jets and the New England Patriots have their challenges and are working with rookie quarterbacks. A lot has changed in the AFC East this season.
So who will come out on top in Week 7 between the Jets vs. Patriots? First, let’s take a closer look at the numbers.
Tale of Two Quarterbacks
Much of the talk coming out of the Jets’ organization during their bye week has been about Zach Wilson. His less-than-stellar start has raised the eyebrows of many Jets fans.
Four touchdowns versus nine interceptions are not what anyone hoped for with Wilson. But let’s not forget what got him here in the first place. The second overall draft pick has the pedigree to be a starter in this league.
So, last week, Wilson took a trip home to work on his skills with familiar faces. That might be just what he needs to get on track.
Mac Jones was not as highly-touted of a draft pick for the New England Patriots. Yet, following in the footsteps of Tom Brady doesn’t seem to phase the rookie.
While not lights out, Mac’s numbers are positive. PFF ranked Jones as the second highest-rated quarterback for last week’s performance in a loss to Dallas. The best way to describe Mac Jones is efficient.
Against the Cowboys, Jones completed 4-4 for 20+ yards on the day. Bill Belichick has asked his rookie QB to manage games for now, but Week 7 could be the time Jones gets unleashed for more shots downfield.
Game Management
Will the Patriots’ coaching staff begin to open up the playbook for Mac Jones? And if they do, can he deliver?
On the New York Jets side, we know what Zach Wilson is capable of from college. This bye week may have come at just the right time for him to regain his swagger.
But for the Jets to compete in this game, they need to start faster. Head coach Joe Saleh has gotten a lot of criticism for dismal first-quarter football. The New York Jets have not scored yet in the first quarter. If the Jets want to avenge their Week 1 embarrassment at the hands of the Patriots, they’ll have to change this trend.
I look for a lot of mistakes to be made during this Jets vs. Patriots rematch. Both teams seem ready to open up their offense, which means defensive backfields could be a factor.
Jets at Patriots (-7)
The Jets at Patriots is never without intrigue, and it looks like this one will be a barn burner. I’m looking for this game to be high-scoring. So I like the over at 42.5 for Week 7.
The NFL 2021 season seems like a work in progress for both these teams. When the dust settles, I think that this game may come down to a walk-off field goal.
I believe that the Jets will cover the seven points. Do you agree, or do you think that the Patriots will continue their domination of the Jets? Create your account at BetMGM’s New Jersey sports betting and place your bet on this game and every other NFL matchup this season.
