Is Joe Judge a Gigantic Issue for the New York Giants?

The New York Giants haven’t won many games in 2021, but the offense has looked okay. Unfortunately for New York, the Giants have been decimated by injuries this season. This is especially true on offense, where they’ve missed their top two wide receivers in Kenny Golladay and Sterling Shepherd.

Will Joe Judge right the Giants’ ship, or will he be subjected to questions about his future as an NFL head coach? According to the NFL betting lines, the Giants are 3-point underdogs against the Carolina Panthers. Read on for a few predictions about how Judge and his team will fare the rest of the season.

Injuries Make It Hard to Judge Joe Judge

Giants Head Coach Joe Judge suffered through a 6-10 season last year, and the team doesn’t look like it will be able to compete with the Cowboys for the NFC East title in 2021.

Judge is only in his second season as the Giants head coach, which means he probably has one of two more seasons before he’ll need a division title to keep his job.

If the Giants can get some key players healthy this year, the team should improve offensively and keep the heat off Joe Judge. On the other hand, Judge could get a free pass from fans if the Giants continue playing without some of their top receiving weapons.

Joe Judge Has Helped Daniel Jones Progress

One of the jobs of a professional football coach is to develop young quarterbacks. Joe Judge has been working with Daniel Jones for a little over a year now, and Jones is showing signs of improvement.

This was especially evident in the Giants’ Week 4 game against New Orleans. Jones threw for over 400 yards and a couple of touchdowns, completing 70% of passes and leading his team to its first win of the season.

This was the first time in Jones’ career he’d thrown for over 400 yards. For the Giants, it’s a welcome change from the 2020 season in which Jones didn’t even top 300 yards in a single game.

Judge Had a Rough Offseason

The Giants made headlines in training camp when three players unexpectedly retired in four days. Some people speculated that these players would rather retire than endure a season under Joe Judge. Whatever the real reason for the retirements, it wasn’t a great look for the second-year head coach.

Judge also faced offseason pressure from Giants owner John Mara, who said, “everyone is on the hot seat.” While Judge might get a pass from fans if the Giants have to battle through injuries in 2021, the Giants owner might not be so forgiving.

Predicting Joe Judge’s Success Moving Forward

Whether or not Joe Judge does well this season will be dependent on the health of his team. However, Judge’s quarterback has played well this season, which is encouraging because Judge’s job likely depends on the success of Daniel Jones.

Joe Judge had a tough start to the season thanks to the unexpected retirements in training camp, but he and the team may recover over the final 12 games. Sign up for BetMGM’s New Jersey sports betting site to place wagers on the Giants and every other NFL team this season.
