In Week 9, the Las Vegas Raiders are favored (-150) on the road against the New York Giants. The Raiders are currently in first place in the AFC West. But how long will it last?
The Raiders this season are 2-1 on the road. Check out the latest NFL betting lines for this matchup and see how many points they can put up against the Giants?
Can the Raiders Make the Playoffs?
Since the Raiders lead their division, it should be assumed that they’ll make the playoffs. But the AFC West is highly competitive.
The Los Angeles Chargers are favored to win the division. And the second-favored team to win the division, the Kansas City Chiefs, just beat the Giants (barely) on Monday Night Football.
So, this week offers the Raiders a decent test.
After suffering a humiliating defeat against the Chicago Bears in Week 5, the Raiders lost their head coach, Jon Gruden.
Since then, the Raiders won a big road game against another divisional rival, the Denver Broncos. Then, they took care of the Philadelphia Eagles at home.
Surprisingly, the Raiders are a top seed in the AFC playoff picture. They should make the playoffs, but it won’t be easy.
Their remaining schedule includes four more divisional matchups. Those games will likely decide whether or not the Raiders make the playoffs.
The Raiders are 2-1 on the Road
The Las Vegas Raiders had their first road game in Week 2 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, which they won, 26-17, after scoring 17 points in the second half. That became a trend of their offense early on in the season.
Quarterback Derek Carr threw for 382 yards with two touchdown passes. Both of those touchdowns came in the second half.
In their second road game, the Raiders lost to the Chargers, 28-14. Their only two scores came in the third quarter after being down 21-0 at half-time.
For their third road game, the Raiders led the Broncos at half-time, 17-7. They put up another 17 points in the second half.
After three road games, the Raiders scored an average of 16 points in the third and fourth quarters.
They were able to run the ball much better against the Broncos. When their offense successfully balances their rushing and passing games, they are hard to beat.
Raiders vs. Giants
The Giants have allowed 25 points per game on average, good for third-worst in the NFC. Meanwhile, the Raiders have averaged almost 26 points per game.
Although their top receiver, Henry Ruggs III, was just released after a fatal DUI incident in Las Vegas this week, the team has shown itself to be capable of overcoming adversity.
The Chiefs only scored six points in the second half against the Giants last week. The Raiders should be able to do better than that in Week 9.
Tight end Darren Waller did not play against the Eagles. So, it remains to be seen if he’ll be healthy for the Giants after a bye.
In three road games this season, Waller had 15 receptions for 174 yards and a receiving touchdown. He should be a top target this week against the Giants, especially in the second half.
Can the Las Vegas Raiders Keep Their Offense Alive?
The Raiders need to have a big game this week on the road against the Giants. It could set the tone for the rest of the year. They’ll need to win as many games as possible to compete for a playoff spot in a tough division.
What do you think? Can the Las Vegas Raiders keep their offense alive after losing Henry Ruggs? How many points can they score in the second half this week against the New York Giants?
