Heading into Week 10 of the NCAA football season, the Liberty Flames go on the road to take on the Ole Miss Rebels. BetMGM’s latest college football odds have Ole Miss as 9.5-point favorites.
So, who will come out on top in this Liberty at Ole Miss game? Here is what to watch for this weekend.
Record ATS
Both teams have decent records ATS at this point in the season, with Liberty being 6-3 and Ole Miss being 4-3-1 overall ATS, respectively.
But, the records shift when you narrow it down to non-conference games this season for Ole Miss, as they have a 2-0-1 ATS this season. However, this may be the Rebels’ most challenging non-conference game so far, considering their other three were early in the season against Louisville, Austin Peay, and Tulane.
One other thing to note is that this is only the second time Ole Miss is coming off of a loss this season. The first time was after their loss to Alabama, and then they barely beat Arkansas at home in a shootout and failed to cover. In comparison, Liberty is 4-2 ATS after a win.
Liberty Steps up in Class
For the Flames, this will be a huge step up in class compared to most of the opponents they have faced this season. One big difference will be that they are facing a top-five total offense in the Rebels.
Ole Miss averages 6.8 yards per play, 541 total yards per game, and 42 points per game.
Let’s compare this to one of the better offenses Liberty has faced this season in Syracuse. The Orange averages 30.5 points per game and ranks 53rd in total offense with 422 yards per game and 6.12 yards per play.
In Liberty’s game earlier in the season against Syracuse, they held them to 24 points but ended up losing a close game to the Orange. It is safe to say that with this much of a step up in class when it comes to offense, the Flames might have a hard time containing the Rebels.
Admittedly, the Rebels’ offense has looked vulnerable in conference games, but they have performed much better outside of the conference. In non-conference games, they average about 53 points per game.
Liberty has only scored more than 53 points once, and it was last week against one of the worst teams in college football in UMass.
This game will be an excellent opportunity for Malik Willis, as he will have a chance to show NFL scouts what he can do against a top-tier team.
Liberty at Ole Miss Predictions
Truthfully, this game would have looked a lot different if Ole Miss QB Matt Corral did not come back from his injury. In last week’s loss against Auburn, it appeared he hurt his left ankle, but he came back 12 plays later and played the rest of the game.
With that in mind, Corral seems like he should be good to go against Liberty. I believe the Ole Miss offense with Corral will be too much for Liberty to handle, and I would expect the Rebels to put up 40+ points and cover the spread.
