NFL Week 7

The Los Angeles Rams are flying high after dismantling the New York Giants in Week 6. However, it should be noted that the Giants were playing without key playmakers on offense, including Saquon Barkley, Kenny Golladay, and Darius Slayton. Still, the Rams are 5-1 and returning home to SoFi Stadium to host former quarterback Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions.

According to NFL betting lines from BetMGM, the Rams are 15.5-point favorites in this matchup. Read on to find out if the Rams might be able to cover the big spread in Week 7.

Storylines Aplenty in Lions at Rams in Week 7

While Rams vs. Lions isn’t a great matchup on paper, it does have some intriguing storylines.

It wasn’t just Matt Stafford and Jared Goff who switched teams last season; Detroit has former Rams defensive end Michael Brockers, and the Rams have former Lions defensive end A’Shawn Robinson.

There’s more. Both Rams coach Sean McVay and Lions coach Dan Campbell had some interesting comments this week in the media about their respective quarterbacks.

McVay said he had some regrets about how he handled the Jared Goff trade, and Campbell called out Goff publicly as someone who needs to step up for Detroit.

It’s a good thing this game has exciting storylines because the matchup couldn’t be more lopsided.

The Los Angeles Rams Offense Is Humming Right Now

Matthew Stafford and the Rams have the fourth-ranked passing offense in the NFL, putting up 297.5 yards per game through the air. However, Los Angeles will be going up against a Lions defense ranked 19th in the league in passing yards allowed.

Stafford should have no problem dicing up his old team on Sunday, but running back Darrell Henderson also has a chance to produce in this matchup.

Detroit’s Defense Is Vulnerable

Detroit is ranked in the bottom half of the league in both rush defense and pass defense.

They’re giving up 384 yards of offense per game, but the Lions are mostly struggling to contain the running game. Dan Campbell’s team gives up the 26th most rushing yards per game in the NFL.

The Rams Defense Could Have a Bounce Back Game

The Rams defense had a shaky start, allowing 24 or more points in three of the first four games this season. However, they’ve improved against lesser opponents the past two weeks, and I expect that trend to continue in Lions at Rams in Week 7.

So far in 2021, Goff has his worst quarterback rating since his rookie season. Detroit has a strong running back tandem, but the Rams have a top 10 rushing defense.

Goff will likely be forced to throw in this game, and he hasn’t been able to produce through the air with Detroit this season.

Los Angeles Should Cover in Week 7

The 15.5-point spread is a little scary, but Detroit just lost by 13 points to the Bengals. I’m predicting an easy Los Angeles Rams win in which Stafford and the offense put up 40+ points.
