- The Madrid Open leads into the Italian Open and French Open next month.
- Jannik Sinner can set a new record with five consecutive ATP 1000 singles titles.
- The total prize purse for the 2026 Madrid Open exceeds $19 million.
The Madrid Open is always a major tennis tournament for the European spring season. The best players from both the men’s and women’s tours converge on Spain in late April as the clay season builds toward the French Open.
This year, Madrid carries some interesting wrinkles specific to 2026. On the men’s side, a singles title for Jannik Sinner at Madrid would make it five straight ATP 1000 championships for the Italian No. 1, dating back to last year’s Paris Indoor Masters. Five in a row would be a new all-time record.
It would also be Sinner’s ninth ATP 1000 title, which would push him ahead of rival Carlos Alcaraz.
Alcaraz won’t appear in Madrid after withdrawing in Barcelona last week to recover from a wrist injury. The Spaniard is no doubt looking to get healthy ahead of another trip to Roland Garros in late May.Â
Alcaraz’s absence leaves Sinner in command of a top-heavy field of contenders. BetMGM’s tennis odds for Madrid have Sinner as an odds-on favorite to run through the field and lift the trophy.
On the women’s side, Aryna Sabalenka has won the Madrid Open in three of the past five years. But the Belarusian hasn’t played a tour match since Miami last month, which means a less player in form on clay could have a strong chance to depose her.Â
This month in Madrid, the men’s and women’s tours will each be playing for a prize purse of €8,235,540. That’s more than $9.7 million per tour and more than $19 million altogether.Â
