The 2-1 Miami Dolphins (-125) come into Week 4 to face the 0-3 Indianapolis Colts (+125). After the Tua Tagovailoa injury in Week 2, the Dolphins started Jacoby Brissett last week against the Las Vegas Raiders.
That game ended in a 28-31 overtime loss. Brissett played four seasons for the Colts, so he’ll be familiar with his opponent. Before you check out BetMGM’s NFL betting lines for the Miami Dolphins game, let’s break down this Week 4 matchup.
Colts vs. Dolphins
The Colts vs. Dolphins game is a must-win for both teams.
Brissett threw for 215 yards last week, completing 32 out of 49 attempted passes without a touchdown. His seven-yard rushing touchdown, however, kept the Dolphins competitive against the Raiders. That might be why the line for the point spread rose by half a point to -2.
After three games this season, the Dolphins are 1-2 against the spread. Their home opener was a 35-0 shutout loss against the Buffalo Bills.
Last week, the Dolphins had opportunities to win their game, but they couldn’t finish strong enough against a surging Raiders offense.
If the Dolphins have any chance of winning at home against the Colts, they’ll need to contain an ailing Carson Wentz with their front seven.
The total over-under also came down by a point from 43 to 42, so oddsmakers expect this game to be a close, low-scoring affair.
Last week, the Dolphins scored 14 points in the first quarter before going scoreless in the next two quarters. That is something they can’t afford to do against the Colts in Week 4.
Miami Offense Needs to Be More Aggressive
The Dolphins need to move past their losses and be more aggressive on offense. That type of strategy leads to big plays.
Half of Miami’s total yards last week came in the fourth quarter and overtime. That needs to change.
Running back Myles Gaskin hasn’t been much of a threat this season, while Malcolm Brown ran for one of only two offensive scores for the offense last week.
So, the Dolphins should balance their rushing attempts to open up their passing game.
Wide receiver Jaylen Waddle has 22 receptions for 167 yards and one touchdown this season. DeVante Parker has half as many receptions with the same total yardage, averaging 12.7 yards per catch.
Brissett has proven so far that he can connect with his receivers for short-and-mid-range completions. However, he needs to start throwing the deep ball more often.
If the Dolphins want to win at home against the Colts, they need to be more aggressive on offense. Look for Brissett to take plenty of chances downfield against the Colts’ weak secondary.
The Miami Dolphins Need to Win at Home
For the Miami Dolphins to be playoff contenders, they’ll need to win at home this week. That should be a starting point for their team to get moving in the right direction.
Their Week 4 matchup against the Colts should offer some great betting opportunities, as this game is expected to be very close.
Since all they need is to win by a field goal, I like the Dolphins to cover the spread at home.
