Which MLB team has the highest payroll in 2022?

As of early March – as the 2022 MLB season and baseball betting are paused amidst an owner-initiated lockout – the New York Mets sit atop the payroll list at nearly $236 million. They have three players with payroll salaries of at least $30 million:

  • Max Scherzer: $43.3 million
  • Jacob deGrom: $36 million
  • Francisco Lindor: $34.1 million

The Mets have six more players with a payroll salary of at least $10 million, including Robinson Cano ($24 million) and Starling Marte ($15.8 million).

Which MLB team has the lowest payroll in 2022?

The Cleveland Guardians have the lowest payroll in the MLB at $29.1 million, only approximately $300,000 below the Baltimore Orioles. Both teams have a lower team payroll than 15 MLB players. Three of those players – George Springer, Chris Sale, and Gerrit Cole – are within the Orioles’ division, the AL East.

The Guardians – formerly the Indians – and Orioles were also the bottom two teams in total payroll in 2021.

What is the average payroll for MLB teams in 2022?

The MLB’s average team payroll for 2022 is currently $115.1 million. Only 12 of the league’s 30 teams sit above the league average.
