The Division Series matchups are set, with No. 1 Toronto facing the Yankees and No. 2 Seattle playing the Tigers in the American League, and No. 1 Milwaukee taking on the Cubs and No. 2 Philadelphia facing the Dodgers in the National League.
Legendary Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter, who is now a BetMGM brand ambassador, recently visited the Jersey City office and took some time to preview what is to come in the MLB postseason. The Emmy Award-winning FOX MLB studio analyst favored the Tigers, Yankees, Dodgers and Cubs in the Wild Card matchups, but he knows that anything can happen in the playoffs.
“You have to get hot at the right time,” he said. “Every team that makes the playoffs can win. The best teams make it, the hottest teams win. You need everyone to click at the right time. You go through a course of a season – you have stretches where everyone may struggle offensively, but then they will all get hot. You have to get hot at the right time.”
The top four seeds earned their spots throughout standout regular seasons but now face their first postseason action. Check out Jeter’s takes on these four teams:
American League – No. 1 Blue Jays, No. 2 Mariners
Jeter likes what he’s seen from Toronto.
“Toronto has a good team. They really do,” he said. “They have been pretty consistent for the most part. They don’t strike out a lot, and they have a whole country behind them.”
He’s also pretty high on the Mariners.
“The Mariners have a good team,” Jeter said. “They have good pitching and a good offense. They have a good team. They are a team that could go far.”
National League – No. 1 Brewers, No. 2 Phillies
Milwaukee hasn’t won a playoff series since 2018, which is notable to Jeter.
“The Brewers were probably the best team in the game consistently throughout the year,” he said. “The thing with them is that they are going to have to get over their playoff drought. They haven’t been able to win a series of late. At some point, it becomes mental.”
Jeter also noted the Phillies have had some good teams of late, but haven’t won a World Series since 2008.
“They have a good team, but they can’t get over the hump,” he said. “They have veterans, a great pitching staff, guys that can hit and take professional at-bats. The Phillies are dangerous.”
