Speed is a big factor in the MLB, especially in today’s world.

Below the Foul Territory crew explores the fastest players by position, thanks to Statcast Sprint Speed metrics measuring players with a minimum of 100 competitive runs.

Fastest MLB Players by Position

Shea Langeliers – Athletics, C

While heโ€™s not swiping many bags, Langeliers is more than just โ€œfast for a catcher.”

Spencer Steer – Cincinnati Reds, 1B

Who would have thought the fastest first baseman would actually be slower than the fastest catcher? Well, thatโ€™s the case for this Reds utility man.

Matt McLain – Cincinnati Reds, 2B

While McLain has been struggling to contribute offensively this season, his top-end speed makes him a plus base runner and rangy second baseman.

Matt Shaw – Chicago Cubs, 3B

The rookie is on his second stint with the major league club this season and has been showcasing elite speed. If Shaw can up his on-base percentage, he might turn into a perennial 30+ stolen base threat.

Bobby Witt Jr. – Kansas City Royals, SS

This is a complete superstar player that you mock up in a video game. Not only is Witt elite offensively and defensively, but he currently has the top sprint speed in the league so far this season.

Jarren Duran – Boston Red Sox, LF

Duran is electric with his power-speed combination. Itโ€™s crazy to think that he was involved in trade rumors but now appears to be staying put.

Byron Buxton – Minnesota Twins, CF

Buxton has long been one of the best athletes in the Bigs and is reminding everyone of that in 2025. And you might be wondering where Rays rookie Chandler Simpson is at. Buxton has him beat!

Corbin Carroll – Arizona Diamondbacks, RF

Carrollโ€™s 98th percentile sprint speed makes him an elite base stealer and defender. Combine that with what he does at the plate, and you have the most dynamic Diamondback in years.
