Best Available MLB Free Agents
1. Juan Soto, OF โ Yankees
Juan Soto famously turned down a $440 million contract from the Washington Nationals in 2022. He has since been traded twice, but perhaps the Yankees have deep enough pockets to sign him to a long-term deal.
Heโs certainly made an impression during his debut season in pinstripes.
2. Corbin Burnes, RHP โ Orioles
Like Soto, Corbin Burnes was traded in the offseason when the Baltimore Orioles acquired him from the Milwaukee Brewers. Under new ownership, the Orioles could keep their talented ace in their contention window before paying their young position players.
3. Blake Snell, LHP โ Giants
Although Blake Snell won his second Cy Young award in 2023, the market wasnโt what he hoped for when he signed with the San Francisco Giants last offseason.ย
Snell overcame a sluggish start to become one of the best pitchers in baseball in the second half of the season. He was even one of the players to throw a no-hitter this season. Snell could net a bigger payday this winter.
4. Roki Sasaki, RHP โ Chiba Lotte Marines
Itโs unclear when (or even if) right-hander Roki Sasaki will be posted. If it happens in 2024, the Dodgers could be the favorites to land him, given what they have to offer in the bonus pool. But more teams will have a shot if heโs posted in early 2025 instead.
Sasaki has had a down year, but he turns 23 in November and could have some of the best stuff in baseball when he enters the league.
5. Max Fried, LHP โ Braves
Max Fried, one of the top southpaws in the market, has posted a sub-3.50 ERA for five consecutive seasons. After spending eight years with the Braves, Fried can land a nice contract as he pitches in his 30s.
6. Pete Alonso, 1B โ Mets
Plenty of teams are interested in obtaining a power bat like Pete Alonso, who will be 30 next year. He has hit 40-plus homers in each of the previous two years and earned three consecutive All-Star selections.
7. Alex Bregman, 3B โ Astros
Alex Bregman, 30, hasnโt been a legitimate MVP candidate since his runner-up finish in 2019. But he will be a highly coveted free agent this offseason after spending nine years with the Houston Astros.
8. Willy Adames, SS โ Brewers
After spending eight years with two small market franchises (Rays and Brewers), Willy Adames will get to play wherever he wants next year. Iโm fascinated to see where the 29-year-old shortstop ends up.
9. Jack Flaherty, RHP โ Dodgers
Jack Flaherty was the best player moved at the trade deadline, going from the Detroit Tigers to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Flaherty is enjoying a bounce-back campaign on the mound, and a deep postseason run could drive the price on him up even further.
10. Gleyber Torres, 2B โ Yankees
At 27 years old, Gleyber Torres is one of the younger players on this list. Heโs also the top second baseman in free agency. Donโt be surprised by the offer that Torres ultimately signs.
