I’m predicting Kansas City Royals right fielder Jac Caglianone will hit a home run on Monday night against the Cleveland Guardians.
Based on the weather forecast, this game isn’t an ideal one to explore for a potential home run target. The temperature will be in the high 40s, with a chance of precipitation and winds of 10 miles per hour.
However, it’s also difficult to get too picky about the weather in April. And the odds are already baking in too much of a discount based on the forecast.
Caglianone hasn’t launched a home run yet this year, but his approach to start the year has been promising. His bat speed (77.2 miles per hour) ranks in the 98th percentile. He just needs to get the ball off the ground for some of his power to translate to home runs.
A matchup against Cleveland righty Tanner Bibee could do the trick. Bibee has surrendered an average exit velocity of 95.3 this year, with a hard-hit rate of 60.9% and a groundball rate of 39.1%.
If Caglianone can find the sweet spot for his pitch, he can put one over the fence in any conditions. I’ll back him at this favorable price tag.
