I’m predicting Houston Astros right fielder Cam Smith will hit a home run on Wednesday against the Colorado Rockies.
Smith’s breakout campaign might be here. In 12 games, Smith has clubbed three home runs and six RBIs while posting a slash line of .300/.417/.575. He has a wRC+ of 189 in his second season with the Astros following a trade from the Chicago Cubs.
The advanced metrics are even more promising. Smith’s bat speed of 77.4 miles per hour is the fastest mark on the team and ranks in the 98th percentile in the majors. His barrell rate of 19.2% is in the 92nd percentile.
Colorado starter Michael Lorenzen has struggled in the early stage of the season. He’s allowed 12 runs on 19 hits, coughing up three homers. Lorenzen has surrendered a hard-hit rate of 57.1% so far this year.
Normally, there is a premium in the home run market for games played at Coors Field, but that doesn’t appear to be the case with Smith’s value on Wednesday. I like his home run odds at +500 or better.
