Mariners vs. Tigers Prediction: Game 3 ALDS Preview

  • Get MLB expert picks and analysis for Mariners vs. Tigers.
  • The Mariners are -135 favorites in Game 3.
  • Seattle is -125 to win the ALDS.

After splitting the first two games of the series, the Detroit Tigers and Seattle Mariners will meet in Game 3 of the ALDS at 4:08 p.m. ET on Tuesday at Comerica Ballpark on FS1.

Both games featured some late-game drama. The Tigers earned a 3-2 win in extra innings during Saturday’s Game 1. The Mariners responded with a 3-2 victory on Sunday, securing their first home playoff win since 2001.

With the series headed to Detroit for two games, Seattle is a short favorite to advance to the ALCS. Logan Gilbert (6-6, 3.44 ERA) will get the nod for the Mariners in a decisive Game 3, while the Tigers will send Jack Flaherty (8-15, 4.64 ERA) to the mound.

Here’s a look at the latest MLB odds and my Mariners vs. Tigers prediction ahead of Game 3:

Mariners vs. Tigers Prediction for Game 3

My favorite Mariners vs. Tigers prediction is Seattle’s moneyline (-130) for Game 3 of the ALDS, per the latest MLB betting lines.

Gilbert had a strong finish to the regular season, which should give the Mariners plenty of faith in him for a pivotal game in a best-of-five series. Gilbert gave up seven runs across his final five starts in September, striking out 29 and walking five over that span.

After leading the majors in innings last year, Gilbert got off to a slower start and went on the injured list for the first time in his career. He returned in mid-June, and I’m choosing to believe that his showing in September is a sign that he’s rounding into form at the right time.

Conversely, Flaherty allowed three runs on five hits in 4 1/3 innings during his last start in the AL Wild Card series.

Both teams leaned on their bullpens a ton over the weekend. Even with the day off, I’m sure they’d like to have their starters get as many outs as possible.

In that case, I prefer Gilbert to set the tone for the Mariners. I’d back them to win Game 3 at -130 or better.

Prediction: Mariners moneyline (-130) – Pick made Monday
