New York Mets pitcher Nolan McLean has returned to being the betting favorite for the National League Rookie of the Year award entering the 2026 MLB season.

McLean is +280 to claim the trophy via the latest MLB Rookie of the Year odds at the BetMGM online sportsbook. At those odds, he has an implied probability of 26.32%.

When this market first opened, McLean started as a +340 favorite. But McLean relinquished the top spot to Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop Konnor Griffin during spring training.

Griffin, who opened at +3000, surged to +200 at one point. The best prospect in baseball is now second in this market at +400 after not breaking camp with the big-league team.

Until Griffin, who is just 19 years old, makes his MLB debut, he’s unlikely to return to the top of the market. McLean, 24, has a chance to get out to an early lead as one of the top starters in the Mets’ rotation.

ATC, a composite projection system at FanGraphs, has McLean finishing with a fWAR of 2.3 this season. He’s projected for 26 starts, posting a 3.70 ERA and 151 strikeouts in 152 2/3 innings of work.

Griffin, meanwhile, is projected to post a fWAR of 2.1 by ATC. He is forecasted for a .257 batting average in 94 games, recording 45 RBIs and 10 home runs.

Behind those two favorites, St. Louis Cardinals shortstop JJ Wetherholt and Cincinnati Reds infielder Sal Stewart are the only other candidates listed better than 20/1 in this market.
